Store Cattle
There was an entry of just shy of 300 Store Cattle for the last Friday sale of the year at Lancaster. A mixed entry of store cattle at the sale today saw quality cattle good to sell and in demand.
The trade topped at £1,420 from two different consignments of cattle, firstly from Barlow Brothers of Croston with an Angus bullock and then Limousin bullock from DE & SM Moorhouse of High House Farm. British Blue bullocks sold to a top of £1,400 from JD & GM Bracken of Greenlands Farm, with plenty of good quality short term bullocks in excess of £1,250. Bulls topped at £1,280 from WR Clark of Barn Hill Farm with British blues. The heifer trade topped at £1,220 for a Limousin from JS & S Atkinson of Sykes Farm. Once again best Black and White bullocks sold in excess of £1,000 topping at £1070 from TE & BM Makinson of Holmgarth.

OTM Cattle
An entry of 117 cast cows forward today saw all types of cows in strong demand and good to sell. There was an overall market average of 110p/kg with black and white cows selling to an average of 103p/kg. Topping the trade today was OTM heifers selling to 199.5p/kg from JA & J Harper of Capplethwaite Hall with a Limousin, Black and White heifers sold to a top of 154.5p/kg or £1,135 from Gibson and Berry of Low Audlands.
Cast cows sold to a top of 179.5p/kg from M & C Booth of Hartrigg with Simmentals, with Limousin cows from RS & BA Harker of Overthwaite Farm selling to 174.5p/kg. Simmental cows sold to a top of £1,245 from JR Gorst of Dolphinholme House. Black and white cows sold to a top of 154.5p/kg or £1050.99 from P & M Crackles of Mill Farm.

Calves and Stirks
A good number of calves forward for this week’s sale especially following on from last week’s Christmas show.
There was a competitive trade with calves selling to a top of £300 for British Blue bulls from JM & MH France & Son of Newhouse Farm, with Angus bull calves to £280 from TM Townley of Knowsley Farm. Montbeliarde bull calves topped at £230 and £220 from JK & B Birkett and Son of White Lund Farm. Weaned black and whites sold to £150 from Sam Wigglesworth of Carnforth with rearing calves topping at £100 from Drinkall Bros of Catshaw Farm.
